Tyre Pressure, Mileage and Road Safety: A Practical Guide

Use the recommended pressure

Find the pressure specified by the vehicle manufacturer in the manual or placard. Recommendations may differ by load and front/rear position. The maximum pressure marking on the tyre is not the vehicle’s everyday recommendation.

Check before the tyres warm up

Use a reliable gauge and follow the vehicle maker’s cold-pressure instructions. Do not release air from hot tyres simply because the reading is higher after a journey.

Inspect more than pressure

Look for damage, unusual wear and recurring pressure loss. Correct pressure helps tyre operation, but it does not repair damage or replace the need for condition checks.

Avoid generic pressure charts

A single pressure value is not suitable for every car, motorcycle or scooter. If you cannot find your recommendation, bring your vehicle details to the showroom.

Check the original guidance

For tyre selection and ratings, use your vehicle’s instructions alongside manufacturer guidance. Warranty questions are governed by the current MRF policy.
